Wedded Rocks

Meoto-Iwa (Wedded Rocks), two rocks considered to be male and female, joined in matrimony by shimenawa (sacred ropes), renewed in a special festival each year, Futami, Ise-Shima, Central Honshu (Chubu), Japan, Asia

I reach for you, my little one
                                         Across time –
                                         And swirling waters.

And as darkness devours the sky
                                         Fleeing glimmers of sun
                                         Hide briefly –
In the corners of your face.

We share our warmth in the night
                                         Then huddle –
                                         But not lonely.
                                         As we await –
                                         The gentle caress
                                         Of dawn.
